The United States Sign Council awarded two of its twelve annual sign design awards to Zebra Visuals. The Plymouth sign and design firm received first place awards for Best Hand Carved Sign and Best Sign System. The awards were selected from entries nation wide.

The prestigious award for Best Hand Carved Sign was received for Mac’s Village Creamery, an Ice Cream Shop which recently moved from Plymouth to Hyannis. The double sided blade sign featured a three foot high ice cream cone hand carved out of high density urethane. It was realistically hand painted (in French Vanilla flavor) by Zebra artisans. The lettering ringing the cone was carved in solid mahogany and gilded with 23k gold leaf.

Zebra uses mahogany for many of its hand carved signs, using urethane foam when appropriate. It’s pretty unusual to mix the two as we did here, but it made sense given the signs unusual design. The design was also unusual because the ice cream cone seems to protrude from the mahogany circle and comes toward you no matter which side you view it from.

Best Sign System was awarded to Zebra for the design of the common area signs at Three Village Green at the Pinehills, a 3000 acre development in Plymouth. The USSC defines a sign system as a group of related signs sharing some design feature in common. This describes our work at the Pinehills exactly. The signs share enough design elements to tie together as a whole, but are different enough to reinforce the eclectic mix of a village setting.

Entering a national design competition for the first time and receiving not just one, but two first place awards is an accomplishment we are proud of. Zebra Visuals places a high priority on the design of every sign we produce and every solution we develop. As you look through our portfolio, we think you’ll agree.
